John combines his love of wood and cabinet making with a passion for woodlands and a strong belief in the importance of sustainability and caring for the environment. In establishing John Whitfield Bespoke Furniture, his two key aims have been to make the best furniture he knows how, whilst always maintaining a sense of responsibility to the natural world.
It is John’s policy to use timbers from sustainable sources, and to support suppliers who demonstrate high standards of forestry management, felling and replanting. In particular, he prefers to use native UK and European hardwoods, and endeavours wherever possible to source timber within Cumbria to minimise transportation footprints.
In itself, commissioning a bespoke piece built using the best techniques and craftsmanship is a more sustainable option. It guarantees a beautiful piece of furniture which is robust, durable and stylish - something which can stay in your family for generations.
